Micra rad - alternative fan swithes
Where is the best place to buy alternative thermostat fan switches for Micra rads. Im hoping all rads have a std thread size and marked up with the
temp at which they turn the fan on.
My fan kicks in at 98deg and off at94deg (as indicated by Digidash2 Pro and std temp sender in pinto head). Id like the fan to kick in at approx
88deg.
Thanks for advise?
for those who followed my bonnet vent thread - it looks like the vents havent made a jot of difference so id like to lower coolant temp that an kicks
in next.

Just a thought ..... I had a cooling problem when I put a body kit on my Nissan 200SX. It turned out to be airflow problems - eddy currents generated
behind the front section prevented air going through the rad. I panelled out the void between front bumper and rad, forcing the air to take a direct
route ...... problem solved with a sq ft of ally plate
Cheers,
Raz

Have you had it setup on a rolling road?
Having the timing too far advanced can cause the engine to run overly hot.

Go to your local friendly motor factors , they should be able to tell operating temperatures for fan switches . MOST fan switches use the same thread
. As already suggested in another thread try a bottle of water wetter.

darren you could get a manually adjustable one where you can set the fan to come on when you want.you wouldnt have to worry about the thread size etc
as these are externally mounted with a capillary going into the water circuit.
cost about £20 and work very well, got ours from a show the other year but cant remember the name of the company.

Couple of things we did to reduce running temperature.
1 - Setup properly on a rolling road.
2 - Add water wetter to coolant
3 - Use expanding foam in nosecone to fill voids (top, bottom and sides) thereby directing all airflow through rad.
4 - Bonnet Vents
Problem solved.

Ok latest updte. Ive odered a new fan stat switch from Halfrauds. Computer saidit was 90 - 82 switch so im hoping it works at lower range to mine (i
know temp ranges are subject to where sender is etc). Is the temp range marked on the sensor anywhere - i dont know how to identify mine! Does M16
thread sound std?
Fan override switch is noe fitted so when i enter slow moving traffic areas i can flick it on for a while or if i do conk out at least i can apply fan
to cool off quicker.
Water wetter - ivehad mixed feedback on this so will put it low down the list.
Fan cowling - great idea - sounds well fiddly to do right. Will search Hellfire site to see how the foam idea works.
Bonnet vents - dont seem to make a difference. Hopefully fan override with bonnet vents will.
Exhaust wrap - on my list of to do jobs.
Thanks for ideas.
