Filters often have the thread size printed on the can. Trip to your factors/Halfords if its closer than the engine?

Oil Filter Threads

Something I found to be aware of is that the threads on some filters are M20 and will screw onto 3/4"UNF engine studs, but with limited depth of engagement. I tried a short Renault filter, Halfords HOF266)which would clear my steering column on two Zetec oil pumps. On the one it would grip, but on the other it gave stripped thread symptoms. When I investingated with a vernier caliper I found a slight difference in the OD of 2 male threads was just enough to grip on the one pump, but the engagement was very poor due to the 1mm difference in the thread diameters.

If you are looking for a shorter filter try one from the fiesta as that is much shorter than the standard Zetec filter.
