Help with cooling system required
I am doing the cooling system for my pinto engined indy.
I have all the hoses except the 10mm one that goes from the top of the expansion tank to the top of the radiator.
I can find 10mm fuel hose and vacuum hose but cooling system hoses all seem to be bigger.
I don't know how hot or how much pressure it will be under so don't know if either of those would be suitable.
What did you use?
Also I would just like to check that I will be connecting up the system correctly.
Bottom of expansion tank to top of water pump.
Top of expansion tank to little outlet at top of radiator.
Big outlet at bottom of water pump to bottom of radiator
Thermostat housing at top of engine to top to big outlet at top of radiator.
Is that right?
Thanks,

i used Samco silicon throughout but several have used regular car hoses from friendly motor factors or even scrap yards. Id happily use the fuel
hose.
Sorry - cant advise on expansion tank plumbing as i havent used one. I think Nick205 may have some good pics in his photo archive.

Your connecting up sounds right from what I can see from manual. I'll check mine tomorrow in the daylight and let you know. The pressure cap
seems to be on the expansion tank so the tank and the pipe from bottom of tank to water pump will be under some pressure ( 10 - 15psi ?) but the
overflow from the side of the pressure cap to top of radiator will not be under pressure. Temps could get to 110 deg I suppose.
If the one you are worried about IS the overflow from the pressure cap, virtually anything will do.

Very odd...
I've just had a look at my Sierra.
There is .. Thick pipe from top of rad to thermostat with thin (10 mm ?) tee-off in that pipe going to top of reservoir. Maybe your rad has 10mm
outlet so you don't need tee in the main hose.
So forget what I said about overflow from side of pressure cap...it WILL be under pressure 15 psi but I should think your fuel hose will be ok.
Bottom of reservoir goes to connection half way down radiator
Thick pipe from bottom of rad goes to water pump
thin pipe from top of water pump goes to heater
Return from heater goes to inlet manifold
Have I confused you enough for one day ?
