manifold water connection???

from a recent posting by DarrenW -
"manifold will follow the simple formula. Its a straight forward flate plate with 4 tubes )and of course a water connection)."

I, too, am wanting to make my own manifold, but for throttle bodies. But the need for a water connection had not occured to me. What is the need?

Is it to warm the manifold? Needed for carbs, but not throttle bodies? A feature of the cylinder head that needs to be accommodated?

I will be using GSXR bodies on a 4AGE.

thanx.

Not sure about the Toyota engine, but, the crossflow and Pinto? have a water connection - the pipe running to the water pump. Don't know if its to heat the manifold though.
Not much help really then!

my evo had a hot water feed that lots of guys used to remove to reduce intake temps. This is the reasoning for it being there in the first place

"It is there to help warm up the inlet charge, to stop fuel from dropping out of suspension at low rpm with a cool inlet charge. This has two benefits, to reduce emissions and to help spool up as more of the fuel burns more evenly.

Problem is it works against you at high boost (with higher inlet temps). Good for a road car, not good for a race/rally or street race car"

I presume its a similar issue.

Or for carbs maybe its to keep a more consistant temperature from summer to winter so the carbs dont need set up all the time.

On Pintos the water flows through the head and out via the inlet manifold. This then completes the circuit and ensures the head has plenty of water flow and also heats the standard carbs up. When i convert to bike carbs the water wont go thro the inlet manifold anymore to heat the carbs so there will just be a small elbow from the plate that i will connect the plumbing to.

I have no idea if other engines have this water connection.
