What you done here mine on my indy hits the steering.

I used one from a renault 5 or 19 i think (its the smallest one available from halfords, and fits a zetec conveniently)

its about 1.5-2" long, and just about clears my steering shaft.

If you want a part no, ill get it tomorrow

Fram PH2874 is what iv fitted to mine. Its about 1.5 to 2inches long. Fits a treat. YOul just need to change it a bit more often than a bigger one.

I've gone remote with a bloody great filter.
I'd allready chopped the sump and reduced oil capacity The thinking was that a large, remote filter would regain some of the lost oil.
