I also added a bleed pipe from the rad, just in case and knocked the non-return ball out of the head bleed pipe (as suggested here.
The engine ran at 90 degrees with the fan cutting in and out except for the water in the oil!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the head is not that bad.

If your engine has the plastic inlet manifold make sure you change the gasket as they leak water into the manifold/ cylinder and can cause a hydraulic lock bending con rods! Guess how I know? The engine had been stopped less than 5 minutes before.

Luckily my inlet manifold is aluminium!
