She's back on the road!!!!

After blowing my k-series 1.4 16V head gasket last week (after I ran the car with the rad fans wired the wrong way around), she is fixed and back on the road.
It cost £51 for new headgasket and stretch bolt set, £108 for head skim, pressure test and camshaft reseal. I also paid another £19 for oil and oil filter.
In addition I bought a new torque wrench for £30 and a £10 cam sprocket locking tool.
She now ticks over at 90 degrees in heavy traffic and only goes up to 93 degrees, where the fans bring it back to 90.
I also put some antifreeze and 'Water Wetter' in for good measure.
It was an expensive mistake, but I now know that the engine is 'like new' inside.
All being well, I will go to Newlands on the 3rd (weather permitting).

Great - I bet that's a relief. I know any unexpected expense is not very welcome, but it wasn't too horrendous; at least it didn't blow up.

Sounds like you've got it sorted now - mine runs at similar temps to yours.

Look forward to seeing you at Newlands if the weather gets better than it has been in August so far!

93 degs, is it me or is that a tad high, or do k series run at that temp

£108 seems excessive for the skim, pressure test & cam seals, but at least she's fixed. Happy motoring

I thought that the price was good. Only £91 plus vat.
It was done by Sutton Rebore. I just dropped it in on Monday and picked it up again on Tuesday Morning.
The temp of 90 degrees is normal for this engine. The stat opens at 88 degrees.
Yes, I am relieved that it is sorted now and the steady temperatures give me confidence that it will be ok. I am going to do a longer run next week to see how it handles dual carraige ways etc, because I am aiming to go to Donnington on the 16th or 17th Sept.
