Carbs or Injection?

Getting a new Zetec engine for my Tiger CAT. Probably a 2L but maybe 1.8 xr3i one if insurance doesn't allow?! Only 21 So should I get myself another set of bikecarbs and manifold or spend the winter building a megasquirt and get some bike throttle bodies?? I love the responsiveness of the bike carbs and don't want to lose it, but not so keen on the economy or various other things! YOU DECIDE! Oli.

Im running my crossflow on bike throttle bodys and having good results. There is now good software for dataloging and tuning from a datalog automatically. I am getting better fuel economy than I had with a downdraught carb and much better performance.

Just not so sure about the outlay. Can do the Bikecarbs for around £300 and I know I'll keep the snappy throttle response I like so much at the moment (+ the noise is brill!)....Don't suppose there is anyone around Aberdeen running a zetec on throttle bodies that would take me for a run??? I just don't know what to do! Don't want to spend loads of wonga and end up with something I regret! Cheers all....Oli.

I know I'm just worried that throttle bodies are going to slow the responsivness I know and love. I hate it when cars (tintops) take ages to build up revs and then ages to fall back to idle again. Thats what I love about the bike carbs and a lightened flywheel I just don't want to loose that by going injection....need someone to eliviate my fears! Got all winter to build and rebuild it so not too worried about the actual making of it etc....after all megajolt seemed complicated as did bike carbs but once you get started and get your head round a few things its all simple really! As with everything I've found with cars up till now! Cheers...Oli.

PS.
Think its looking like some bike throttle bodies then....best get scouring fleabay I guess!

fuel injection is far better than carburation, you just need a computer to tune it rather than some spanners.

Sounds convincing....might start skulking around on gay-bay and see if I can get me some throttle bodies....Any particular type better than others??? I was planning on R1's but I guess anything 900cc + will do the job?? Cheers Oli.

Funny that more people have voted for bike carbs than car throttle bodies...why is this??? Expense?? Oli.

Mainly expense I would think. Throttle bodies like e.g. Jenveys are vastly overpriced when you consider their inherent simplicity compared to carbs.

Oli you got good set of bike carbs why not transplant them? They may need re-jetting but that's it. IIRC you have a 1600 Pinto. Why not do a head job on it? I have the book and a spare engine if you screw up, It is surely worth trying to get another year or so out the work you have done! I doubt the Pinto will get you anything back moneywise I don't know what the value in the bike carbs and megajolt will be but not worth ditching just yet!

If you go megasquirt or similar you might as well build a laptop into your dashboard for play factor! If I were you I would have a go at flowing and valv ing yor head and getting a de dion set up for the back end of the car you will lose a lot of weight therefore car will be faster!

LOL...had considered the comp in a dash scenario...would be cool but slightly pointless and prob heavy! You might be right....thinking in the long run its cheaper to get my zetec for £50 and rebuild it over the winter. Insurance wont allow me to put the zetec in until March anyway so got a bit of time to play with the pinto yet. I would transfer the carbs but the pinto inlet manifold prob wont fit the zetec and if I need a new manifold my 38.5mm choked carbs are prob too small for the zetec so might aswell get some r1's in the long run....but then £200 for manifold might aswell go throttle bodies so you see its a complicated thought process! Cheers Oli.
