Rock 'n' Roll !

I have noticed that my K-series rear engine mount is allowing my engine to rock on the two top mounts.
Because of space limitations, what would be the downside of bolting this one mount to the chassis instead of a rubber mount?
Would the vibration be excessive?

A lot more vibration transmitted through the frame, at a guess.

Had you considered PU mounts?

David

I wanted to keep the standard mount bracket from the engine/gearbox, but I guess I will have to get the welder out again!

It will need extending a bit. The mounts I can source

Cheers

I used to have a similar problem with a Renault I had. I drilled straight through the lot and put a bolt through it, that cured it.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I would imagine that one solid mount and two rubber ones would lead to a fairly rapid failure of the solid mount as all the torque reaction would be then fed through it. Either have all three solid and suffer the vibrations (and check for stress fractures often) or find another way. Are poly bush mountings available, or is there room for brace anywhere? Compliance mounted at both ends of course.

DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!

I am going to modify the original bush with a bracket. A little more work, but what the hell !

Took a couple of hours today to remake the mount.
I cut the original link arm mount so that I had only one bush and a short rod. I welded a plate onto the rod so that I could bolt it to the chassis.
Where the engine used to rock, now it it stiffer. It will move, but only about 3-4mm instead of the half an inch before.
The way I noticed this movement in the first place, was my rod gear shift moved as I accelerated hard. Now it is ok.
