Is it the clutch ?
Took my pride and joy for the last run before SORN.
Dumped the clutch and had fun. However, on the wind down I couldn't help noticing the amount for engine breaking that was occurring off
throttle. It literally felt like I had the handbrake on and an anchor out the back.
I've done a little over a 1200 miles without adjusting the clutch slave cylinder so I hope its just some fettling. Couldn't help but smell
something expensive when I took the bonnet off.
Running a Tremec 500 with a short block chevy, all brand new so I can't help but think its the adjustment. (I hope !).
Anybody got any other cunning ideas before I launch into an engine out !

It sounds more like brake problems, have you pushed it out of gear to see if it rolls easily. The clutch shouldn't affect engine braking by
giving you more, it should be the opposite. The clutch may be slipping trying to drive against the brake.

I'd very much doubt it's the clutch. The reasoning behind it is the clutch is either engaged or disengaged and if its engaged then the
whole engine/gearbox/axle drivetrain behaves as one unit locked together.
How slow does the engine come to idle if you dip the clutch and blip the throttle??
It could be tight (seizing??) does it stall? does it idle OK??
Take it for a run and when it's up to speed
push the clutch in (freewheel) and see how rapidly it slows down with the engine disengaed from the drive train. If it still does it it could be the
brakes binding or a gearbox or axle fault.

only 2 things smell
- Brakes
- Clutch
but you say that your brakes without you touching the brakes...
then it cant be the clutch!!

It may be that your brakes aren't freeing off completely. Is your brake pedal coming back far enough to allow surplus fluid to get back into the
reservoir?

Run it half a mile. Feel wheels. Curse, rip hand away and suck.
If the brakes are binding the wheel(s) will be hot

saying that temperature will be involved allot!!
