Bits for Pinto rebuild
Just setting out on stripping down and rebuilding my 2.0 pinto armed with Des Hammils book and a Haynes manual.
I consider it a learning exercise with not much to loose.
Just thinking where is a good place to source all the little bits like conrod bolts, cap bolts, oil seals, thrust washers, etc.?
I guess Burton can supply most of it I just wondered if there were other (possible cheaper and more convenient) places.
I used to be apathetic but now I just don't care.

You don't need to go and spend loads of money at Burtons (Very Expensive).
You can get gasket sets, new head bolts etc off ebay for not much money.
You shoulf get your block and crank measured at your local engine reconditioners and they will tell you if it needs a rebore/regrind. They will supply
bearing shells and thrust washers. you can usually reuse the main and Big end cap bolts - particularly if you don't think it's been apart
before.
U2U me if you need any more info on building a Pinto.

Local motorfactors for a "head set" which should include all the seals and gaskets for the head and block + a new set of head bolts (check
you get torx head and not hex head bolts).
Local motorfactors again for a "sump set" which should include sump and gasket and other bits and pieces.
As Mookaloid says a local engine reconditioner will be able to check the block and head for you and will usually supply bearings to suit any work they
may have to do to the components. They'll also be able to chemically clean all the parts as well, which saves a lot of faffing.
The books you have should get you through easily.

Yep ebay is your friend for that lot. Bought a gasket set for the head + new bolts for about 25 to 30 quid inc postage.

Correct about the bearing shells - I bought mine from the people who rebored the engine (Scholar engines) and although they aren't the cheapest
by a long way, they were still far cheaper than Burtons. I also knew that they were the right ones - but if they weren't then I could
justifiably have taken them back.
I got all my gaskets from a local motor factors - exactly the same make as Scholar provided.
Burtons are useful for some stuff though - choice of oil pumps, pulleys, and stuff like that.

Graham Goode have a good range of cossie stuff (more than is on the website)
(again not cheep but if you can't get it elsewere)
lots of cossie bits are good if you need to 'uprate' a bit of your pinto (i.e. crank bearings etc)

Thanks guys.
Head is with my man at the moment. Just some basic porting and a cam on the menu. Don't think I'm going for bigger valves as I only have
40's to bolt on.
Block I will retrieve at the weekend to strip down and once it's clean I will probably pass to him for comment.
Not certain about boring out to 2.1 at the moment. Depends upon the report I get back.
