Engine running on
The last 2 or 3 times when I have been out in the Luego it runs on for quite a few seconds when turning of the ignition, any idea what may be the
cause.

Hot plugs and extra fuel due to the colder air I'd guess.

Had this on my 1st car. A 1988 mk4 Escort and it was the mixture. Was too rich had to keep altering it a bit at a time, trial and error.

what state is the engine in?
is it full of carbon? coked up as they say!
could be that causing it to run on !
mixture to rich
timing out

The Mk2 escorts had a little rubber pipe running from the inlet manifold to a solenoid 'dump' valve to stop the engine when the ignition
was turned off. They could run on indefinitely without this.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

For me, it's using petrol that's too low an octane (i.e. ordinary unleaded). My engine has been converted to unleaded, but I've
kept the standard timing advance for leaded so I have to use super unleaded. If I don't, it runs on when I turn off the ignition... (apart from
any damage it may cause - I don't try this very often!)

As Mark points out the mk2 Escort had an anti run on valve that opened when the ignition was switched off to allow extra air into the manifold . Might
be worth fitting one if a decent engine tune doesn't cure the problem . Some MGBs and Metros had them as well
