Zetec Flywheel

I seem to remeber reading that it is posssible to use a CVH flywheel on a Zetec.

Can anyone confirm this and whether it is any CVH flywheel. I have been offered one off a FWD 1.6 but am not sure if it will fit.

Hi

I can confirm the 1.8CVH flywheel will fit a 1.8 Zetec as I have fitted on to mine, although you have to drill the holes out bigger.

On the plus side it is a couple of Kilos lighter than the Zetec one, but the downside is it doesn't have crank position sensor teeth on it.

As I now have the engine in the workshop I guess the best option then is get the Flywheel and give it a try. I will post the outcome for future reference.
I suspect that only the RWD flywheel will be suitable but you never know!!
Now Iv'e got the engine I am keen to get started with the transplant.

I collected a FWD CVH flywheel today to see if it fits.

The dimensions are the same so it will fit the Zetec in RWD configuration. The only concern is getting a clutch plate to fit it.

The XR3i cover should be OK for the power I will be using but it takes an 8inch plate.

Does anyone know if any of the RWD engines use a 8inch/200mm friction plate. I was thinking Xflow or smaller Pinto.

If I can find a plate to fit, this will be an easy option for Zetec conversions.

Thanks,

Steve

Hello steve

What ignition system are you planning to use ?

The reason i ask is that when you loose the zetec flywheel you then have to think about how the (CPS)crank position sensor will work,in the zetecs normal form the CPS reads the back of the zetec flywheel so for megajolt or megasquirt you are going to have to fit a 36 tooth chopper on the front pulley plus the CPS to read.

I am thinking it is easier to use the zetec flywheel, preferably the 1800 as it and the clutch from the 1800 are lighter.

Hi Bob.

I have Megajolt on the Pinto and will swap this over. I will use a toothed wheel on the front pulley.

If all else fails I will get an 1800 flywheel but the CVH one is lighter (and is free!!!)
