K series mating to ford gearbox problems

Good evening Gents,
Newbie here so please bear with me. Been in the Rover game along time now and a good client of ours drives a MK kitcar amongst a couple of other nice "toys" and we have been asked to substitute the K16 mpi engine as it is really poorly.
Question I have in relation to this thread is the spigot in the end of the crank is way too small on the replacement engine in comparisson to the engine removed. The gearbox is a Ford 'box although I do not know which specific one. My options are :

Have the crank machined to allow the input shaft to travel in further or....

Remove 3/4 inch from the input shaft to allow the splines to contact the plate fully. I really do not wish to modify the input shaft gents so I am assuming this issue pops up once in a while is there a nice straight forward way to reassembly without great expense to our client.

Much appreciated,
Kind regards

Many thanks for your reply.
I will speak to the MK factory tomorrow as they built the vehicle originally and hopefully they will have the required jigs.

I,d go for the first motion shaft, then if the engine goes south you are not repeating things.

We used to put RV8's on to series boxes strip out the first motion shaft and lathe down, no special tools required beyond a small lathe so minimal cost as well.

For the locost route buying a cheap lathe from fleabay and charge the tool out.

Regards Mark

I have now found the original company who modified the crank on the original engine, luck would have it half hours drive away !! although costing £60 inc vat it will keep the repair on the move and not wasting the cost to buy the replacement.
