alloy bell housing for pinto
got a chance to use one of these alloy bellhousings on my type nine gearbox.Question is there is no side aperture for clutch actuation.as you can see
the starter can be fitted either side,does this mean the side not used is for the clutch arm,or does it go in from the rear ?

You need to use a Saab hydraulic clutch I think...the release bearing basically becomes the atuating arm. I'm not 100% clued up on these so
I'm sure someone will be along shortly to clear things up.....Oli.
If your not living life on the edge you're taking up too much room!

You can run starter or clutch cable on either side, whatever is convenient.
Just make a bracket to hold the clutch cable bolted to the starter holes

Some of the Pinto ally sumps are handed and have the hole for the clutch cable on a plate to one side, i have also seen the metal back plates extended
to cover unwanted starter hole, i would just cut some steel to fit and use the starter motor mounting holes to bolt it on.
What is going to happen to the other one, guess what i want next.

You can either use the Saab parts, as long as you have a lathe to make up a new gearbox nose (the shroud around the input shaft), or you can spend 190
quid with Burton power to buy an of the shelf system. Ive got on fitted to a TVR Vixen, and it is very good, but expensive!!

Just make a bracket as already suggested . Made mine to bolt up to the 3 starter bolts on the O/S , bit fiddly to connect the cable but not too bad .

Std type 9 clutch release arm does not fit inside the alloy jobbies, you will have to cut it and make it narrower, that or get the original one for
the alloy bellhousing, as for cable adjustment, I just welded up a 'y' ish shaped bracket to use the excisting 3 bolt holes not being used
on the 'spare' side, this was slotted to allow the cable adjuster to slide down into and then be tightened

Note, you can still buy the RS2000 clutch arm from Ford dealers! I got one a while back for about £23 IIRC.

Hi as said above it is all std ford RS2000. So parts are redilly available just gotta find them.
Just watch for striped threads on the bellhousing although i usually drill them through and nut and bolt except the top two of course .

Also watch for cracks in the bellhousings, they are very light castings and consequently quite thin so prone to cracks around the mounting holes. Can
be fixed by tigging them up of course.
