MORE BHP
Right, i want to keep my pinto for few more years before i decide to change it to either bike or duratec engine.
At the moment ,im running zx9 carbs wiyh megajolt and fr32 cam, what can i do next , i dont want to spend loads of money on the engine, just a bit to
see some more horses, would be nice .
I had considered cosworth head , but cost would be to high compered to bike fittment.
Any ideas fellas.
Brad.

30hp nos kit if you dont like it you can get a good chunk of the money back or keep it for future cars ,had mine for a few years now but its a plate

Big valve heads come up regularly on ebay, often fitted with a wilder cam too. Should give you a reasonable power increase if you just want something
to bolt on.
Or you could run it on C-12

with nitrous dont forget the cost of actually filling the bloody tank, cant be cheap!
the most significant effect you can have for now would be to fit a zx9 or blade engine, could be in for under a grand on the cheap, and would have a
diabolical effect on performance. Any money you spend on the pinto is going to be absolutely minimal difference compared to this. I appreciate you say
you dont want to change engine, but thought id mention it anyway - to me it seems the most cost effective solution

If you're gonna skim the head, make sure you check (if you have a slighly wilder cam) that you valves won't try poking holes in
pistons.
A friend of a friend had the head of his ZZR1100 done and reckons it's made one hell of a difference.

cheaply would be to get big valve/ported head, overbored 2.1 (or more?), up the CR a bit, balanced and lightened, wilder cam.
not sure how much that will cost nor how many bhp you'll get as you already have the engine beyond the standard set up.
But all that work will require removing the engine so you might as well fit a zetec in the interim or save your money for the duractec

Increasing the CR from 9 to 10 ups the theoretical efficiency from 58,5 to 60,2%.
All other things being equal, this would mean you'd get 2,9% more power.
(theoretical max engine efficiency = 1-(CR^(1-kappa)) in which kappa is around 1,4)
However, since the engine is probably already running at BLD (borderline detonation) at lower RPM, you'll only see this increase at higher
(3500+ at a guess...) engine speeds.
I've lately been thinking about turbocharging the pinto. Using a small (no big power, 180 bhp would easily be enough) turbo, water cooled
intercooler mounted behind the head and into my modified injection plenum (which has the inlet at the rear, hence the intercooler position).
Properly set up, this should be driveable, and deliver loads of torque and power for little money. There would be "some" fabrication
involve though....

You mentioned a cosworth head, will it bolt straight on to a pinto block and run?
It does bolt straight on to the pinto block, bot there's lots of work involved. You have to skim the head to raise CR , you need new
pistons, con rods, and other modifications that i cant think of at the moment, if you get , How To Power Tune Ford Pinto and Cosworth engines by Des
Hamill, it tells you how to do it.

sounds like less work to get a cosworth engine and run it normally aspirated after skimming the head.
I'll check the book out.

How about 2.1 short engine kit from vulcan £499 ? seems quite reasonable for the money,skim/port the head when you change.
robert's your fathers brother,
If it doesn't fit MODIFY it!!
