Wanna laugh

Phoned the Audi shop as I need some gaskets and hoses etc for my turbos.

They sent a fax of exploded view of twin turbo layout, and I asked for prices for two oil feed pipes and return pipes. Same again for water pipes, a stud for one of turbos and both sets of exhaust gaskets.

Price £374

Phoned and said I'd give it a miss (though I'll have gaskets and exhaust stud. Then I mentioned I'll have 8 banjo fittings and bolts/washers and make my own pipework. OK came the reply.

Five minutes later they rang back.

"Er the banjo fittings are £31 each" Yeah times 8.

So not only was first price extortionate, the also underestimated by £240. Bill would have been over £600 for a bit of pipe and fittings.

Can amyone recommend a good, reasonably priced supplier of banjo's and fittings.

Cheers very much.

I would look in the yellow pages for local industrial hydraulic enginners. They should be able to provide everything you need and much cheaper than motorsport orientated suppliers.

banjo fittings are about £3 each .

youll find most are equipped for BSP and have to order metric stuff .

You'll know this but just a reminder that if its oil hoses you are after - the oil leaving the turbo will be hot - possibly over 150 degrees and so the hose that you spec will need to have a high temperature liner.

The high temp silicone hose is a good bet - some are stable up to 250 degrees

Post some pics up of this beastly conversion then!

Hi Simon,

I guess you have specific sizes in mind, classic range rovers have banjo's on the axle breathers, I,m sure I can find some of them for free.

Another thought is get some goodrich brake hoses with banjo ends fitted.

Regards Mark

My local hydraulic stockist rescues me in times like these. Usually easier if you have a pattern to wok to but often you can just do a sketch of what you need and they will come up with something a fraction of the price.

Cheers,

Mark,

I went to our local hydraulic chap today (does tractors, so about the right technology for the old Rover V8, and he'd gonna contact his suppliers Monday and give me prices.

Cheers for all your suggestions.
