1300 cross flow engine date

Hi ya

Having a little trouble with my proof of engine date for my 1300 xflow , my engine number is SY00236 . Now it was originaly fitted to a mk2 escort and i identify the date as october 1976 , ford technical have sent my proof letter back saying the engine number relates to june 1995 . Can that be right as i am not sure.

Many thanks

Davrus

That's really strange. I've had a look in the Burton catalogue where they have a table of Ford engine manufacturing dates and SY is given in there as 1976 which is as you would expect. I think I have read previous threads where people have used and have had accepted, the Burton catalogue page as proof of engine age.

The engine in the ka (Endura) just looks like a crossflow. The inlets and outlets are in a different order.

wots the block casting?

clearly Ford have re-used the letters but

711 M will be 1976

771 M may be the 1996 - this engine would have the shalloer timing cover if indeed such as thing was ever made.

I had the IDENTICAL problem with Ford about 3 or 4 years ago.

As far as I recall, I spoke on the phone with them and was told that the numbers were re-used.

A new letter was posted out to me with the correct year on it.

The casting number is 711m which i all so sent them , i know they did use the SY on 95 engines but i did tell them it is a 711m and i estimate it to be 1976.

Very strange
