1.8 CHV - Wring / ECU / Distributor thing

Before the abuse starts for using the 1.8CVH .... I know but as Magnus Magusons says "I've Started so I'll finish"

Anyhow, I have the 1.8chv, the engine bay loom, the dizzy (distributor) , and the inlet manifold, and a 1.6CVH thomstate housing.

So far I have removed the 1.8Inlet manifold and fitter DCNF twin 40's (down draught). From the inlet manifold I have removed the Temp Gauge senser and fitted into a port on top of the 1.6 CVH thostate housing which is bolted to the port on the back to the head (similar to the 1.6CVH). This also holds the Fan Thermo switch.

This leave two sensors and a vacume solenoid.

Air Temp Sensor - Air Based
Engine temp Sensor - water based

I guess with the air sensor I mount it on the Air filter so I get a reading. But where do I mount the engine temp sensor.

Do I mount this into the radiator or one of the water hoses?.

The Vacume solenoid this will work the advance and retard usually But twin 40's don't have advance retard.

Would I be better throwing the ECU thing way and fitting a new dizzy. If so what type etc can I fit?

Scot's do it better in Kilts.

1800 CVH

Dont get a complex , this engine aint all bad.

You can see it in my car at : http://www.groovy42.freeserve.co.uk

I have the air temperature sensor mounted on a plate near the carb intake , in the air filter would be better.

The engine temps sensor is in the inlet manifold on the head side of the thermostat.

I unpicked the engine loom and used the applicable parts, of course you need to connect the vacuum advance from the carb to the ecu.

what inlet manifold did you use?

what did you do about the water take off at the back of the head , weld it up?

I've just made an adaptor plate ,and fitted a Weber DGV carb to mine, also have skimmed the head ,and spent some time on the porting.

I've had another look at the wiring. As i'm using dcnf Carbs and not the cvh inlet manifold I think I don't need the MAP box and the air sensor, engie temp sensors the vacumes.

Has any one tried this?
