Very odd starting problem
I've just installed a new emerald ecu. Wired it all up and i have been struggling to get it to fire. To cut a long story short it cranks over
and pops but doesn't start. Every now and then the engine will stop cranking and the dashboard and everything goes off. When i release the key
th dash lights back up etc. I suspected a dodgy battery so have replaced it. Still no joy.
Here is the weird bit... If i unplug two of the ht leads it will fire on the first turn of the starter and run on four cylinders. If i then plug the
ht leads back in it runs sweet on six cylinders. The same if i unplug 4 of the ht leads it will fire instantly on 2 cylinders. Plug all six back in
and it runs sweet as a nut, it just won't start up on all six?
Brand new battery, engine turns over at full speed on key until it now and again stops instantly as though starter is jammed and drawing all current?
But if i release key and crank again it cranks on full power.

Might be too much ignition advance ? that would possibly cause your symptoms IIRC it's possible to adjust the cranking advance on an Emerald ECU
independant of the running advance

If it's the timing won't it cause problems when he revs? When I delivered pizzas one of the nuts (the boss) changed over one guys ht leads
for a joke and it idled fine but sounded strangled when he revved it

Cheers chaps. The cranking advance is indeed set seperately to the running advance. Will reduce it and see what happens.
