does anyone which part of the engine code gives you the engine age.

I think that is the casting number, the engine number should be 2 letters and 5 numbers and is stamped into the engine on the right hand side

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

You can write to Ford motor co who will give you date of manufacture, i did this for my SVA for age related plate,
will find out address and post later unless anyone beats me to it

The casting number always ends in 6015 which is Ford Motor Co’s part number for cylinder blocks.

The first 3 numbers and letter identify the block model.

Last 2 letters are capacity;

Age cannot be determine from this information - you should find the enigne number in format AA12345 - the two letters will give month and year.
(note the 2 letter codes are reused but is pretty obvious when dealing with pinoto or zetec which is the correct date)

Yes. If you also look towards the bell end of the engine there seems to be a date stamp (well at least on my 87 block)

If you trace a line horizontal line from the top engine mount bolts to the bell housing there is a bolt along the side about half way, below this is a date. Mine looks something like 28 ?? 87. There is a blob of paint on the middle digits on mine. Looks a bit like 09.

It seems by sheer luck the 205 engine I bought is the same year as the donor car so I hope in theory be able to still get an age related plate
