pito boiling up

I have a 1.6 pinto with a Mk 2 escort rad and an electronic fan from a punto.
Yesterday i installed a capillary tube / adjustable fan switch from SVC.
Switch and assembly works well but even running from tick over for 10 mins or so water comes out of the small metal hose by rad cap .
I have no expansion bottle set up and the top hose from the rad is higer than the thermo housing.
Do i need the expansion bottle set up or should i remove the thermostat.?
cheers

Have you tried a new rad cap? Your one could be faulty.

Sounds like you need a new rad cap. If thats not holding pressure then thats what would happen. Don't forget, without an expation tank set-up, you need the leave a bit of space in the rad top tank and not fill it to the brim.

Was the system working before or is this a brand new install?
If a brand new set up, then there are so many possibilities including not plumbing the pipework correctly.
Personally, I fit an expansion tank in my system everytime I build a car.
No water loss and easy to check.
If your system was working already then perhaps you have over filled the rad as suggested or got an air lock (the exact reason to fit an expansion tank)

I've got a similar system - 1.6 Pinto & small escort rad, heated manifold for DGAV, electric fan & capillary switch
It's a difficult system to fill, takes a few static runs and refills to get rid of airlocks, but once settled it's reliable with sufficient cooling and no loss of water.
I intend to fit a header tank someday but at the moment it works just fine - only problem is a tendency to overheat in crawling traffic

The best way is a expansion tank and my bleed point is the top part of the rad

You really need an expansion tank, without it you will always lose some water as the engine heats up. If you top it up then it will just spit it out again.
