diff change

Gents i am being asked about how hard it is to change a 7 inch sierra diff to a 7.5 inch froma cossie / granada in a tiger kit car.
Now i have not played much with those two diffs as the kit has escort axle and the ones i used to muck around with were the older mk1 and 2 granadas.
Can anyone give me and idea on such things as
Drive shaft differeance, diff fixings to chassis, etc.
Richard

AFAIK the dimension refers to the distance scross the outside of the mounting
where the 'kin long bolt goes.
Thus to switch from a 7 to 7.5 would require cutting off the chassis diff mounts
and rewelding 1/2 inch wider or machining the diff down to 7".

But if I'm wrong a more knowledgeable person will be along soon to make me feel stooopid

The measurement also referee to the Crown wheel diameter.
Most IRS 7's have the diff mounting plates wide enough for the 7 1/2" that's why most 7" diffs have a lot of washers between bolts and plates.
I think the shafts are the same length, they most likely will be bolt on, you should chech the diff flange diameter, 100mm or 108mm, you can't have 108 at the diff and 100 at the hub

As above - most manufacturer chassis are built to take either 7" or 7.5". If the existing 7" top mount is spaced out with 1/2" of washers then you can fit a 7.5". If the 7" is a snug fit you'll have to cut off the top mounts to do the job. Dont use a 7.5" from a 2WD sierra cossie as it has larger CVs and driveshafts so you'll have to change the whole back end, not just the diff.

Out of interest why is this being done? In such a light car even the 7" diff can handle a big amount of power - a 7.5" is very rarely, if ever, necessary.
