Pinto cambelt

Hi, I went to buy a new cambelt for my pinto today but when i took the belt out of the box to look at it the teeth were a different shape to the original
the new belt still has flats to sit on the teeth on the pulleys but the teeth on the belt are round instead of flat topped.
I checked the part no on the belt and its correct.
so the question is! is this a new improved belt?, or the wrong belt with the right part no?
so before i talk to the supplier has anyone come across this before?
thanks in advance
Ray

Sound like an incorrectly boxed belt or incorrectly marked if the numbers are on the belt.

There were some engines with round profile belt teeth originally where the replacements/later belts had more flat topped teeth (bit of a groove across the tooth) but I think all the Pintos had square profile teeth.

there at least 2 types of timing belt for the pinto that can be used the orignal square tooth profile and a slightly rounded profile with a groove in the middle both types can be used

I only use gates timing belts
