Cooling Question
Further to my thread the other day about temp sender for the gauge and a cooling fan switch, I finally got hold of a temp sender (from an escort) and
am ordering an adaptor for between the rad and thermostat housing to take the fan switch (JJC Race). I also picked up an expansion bottle from a VW
which should fit fine. Where I have decided to fit it means it will sit with the 'MAX' line around 2" lower than the top of the
radiator. Will this be a problem or is it going to be OK?

Ideally you want the header tank to be uppermost, because if you get an air lock where will it be? So may prove difficult to bleed the cooling system
but no impossible as there are vacuum types of bleeding kit.
No the the end of the world but be aware of where airlocks will be and a plan as to how to get around it.

I was going to connect the radiator breather (the very small connection) to the top connection of the expansion bottle as I thought that this would
allow air in the radiator escape to the top of the expansion bottle (the upper hose connection should be above the radiator top). I did also think of
'T' ing into the small connector on the thermostat housing.
The only thought is where to connect the bottom hose of the expansion bottle because I need to connect the small inlet for the water pump into the
manifold.

Yeh that would be good mate.
What about teeing into the bottom rad hose for the lower expansion hose but do it very close to the rad?

Could do Rich, but I just sourced and fitted hoses and tubing for the bottom so a bit of a PITA to change it now 
I really didn't think that this part of the build would be such a damn headache! Got the handbrake finished today, sorted out the main brakes,
hoping to get some more stuff done tommorrow with a view to getting to the 'first start' stage, but this damn cooling stuff is holding me
back 
Would it work if I 'T' in to the small hose from the pump to connect the bottom of the expansion bottle and the manifold?

If getting water to the inlet manifold is proving difficult why not try just blocking it off, not many actually warm the inlet as we don't tend
to go out in freezing weather which is why its there to try and prevent carb icing.
Any chance of a picture as to how you plan to plumb it mate?

Good point Rich, not sure I will need it
I will have a go tomorrow at drawing the planned plumbing and post it up here mate.
In the meantime how does this sound:
Radiator bottom hose - large pipe on water pump
Radiator top hose - large pipe on thermo housing
Radiator small connector - top connector on expansion bottle
Bottom hose of expansion tank - small pipe on water pump
Block-off manifold connection
Leave thermo small pipe blocked-off
Sound do-able?
I've also just ordered one of those variable thermostats that goes into the top hose (from SVC), saves me having the hassle of worrying whether
the stat I have is the right temp for my engine.

Yes that will be fine, however I did mine slightly different..
Radiator bottom hose - large pipe on water pump
Radiator top hose - large pipe on thermo housing
Radiator small connector - top connector on expansion bottle
Bottom hose of expansion tank - small pipe on water pump
Block-off manifold connection
Unblocked thermo small pipe and tee'd in to Radiator small connector - top connector on expansion bottle

I was going to use that later when I fit a heater, the other hose would be 'T'd into the expansion tank to water pump small hose.
Looks like a plan anyhow. Thanks for the input Rich, all I need now is another lovely day of sunshine to get on with it, and see if I can get nearer
to starting the damn thing!
