1.8 Pinto with MT75 box
Hi all,
I am about to start fitting the Engine and Box into my chassis, but have run into a slight problem. some advice I got early on in the build led me to
get hold of a 1.8 Pinto which ususally mates with a Type 9, and an MT75 box.
Now I need an adaptor plate to mate these two together. Does anyone have one, or know where I can get one? If I had plans I could probably make it.
Also - if anyone has done this before and encoutnered problems, I would be very grateful for advice. I don't really want to go and get a type
9, but if I have to.....
Cheers

You should not need an adaptor plate to couple up a 1.8 pinto and a type 9 or an MT75.
Something sounds a bit odd here.
All bolt holes and hollow dowels should line up.
Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want!!!

As I did not take them apart, I am going by what the Haynes manual for the Sierra says - which is "remove the bolts holding the adaptor plate
and remove" for both types of engine/gearbox combinations.
The gearbox will mate to the engine and all mounts line up - on the top half. The bottom of the gearbox is then open to atmosphere, so will need
closing off.
Also, I am assuming that the original adaptor plate has some thickness, and will therefore need to be replaced with something similar to ensure the
shaft and clutch etc are in the correct positions?

OK understand now.
Its not actually an adaptor plate you require its just the thin steel plate between the g box and engine.
This is just a piece of 16G steel.
I'm sure someone will have one lying around
Put a post in the wanted section for a Pinto to type 9 engine to g box plate.

Many thanks.
If this is all it is, I have a load of 16g steel bits and pieces, so I'll probably be able to make one without too much trouble.
I'll post an ad anyway - if someone has one it might as well be made use of.
Cheers.

Yep ive got a spare spacer for the mt75 box to a zetec motor you can have .Offered it before but was never collected.
You may have another problem that you havnt found yet ? The dohc engine had a huge(deep) flywheel that means you may need a spacer on the thrust
bearing to take up the slack..This is how westfield do it ....
This box is common on the zetec conversions. Unless you really want to use it Id stick with the type 9 for the pinto..
The down side of the mt75 box is that its biger and may require tunnell mods ,will require mix and match clutch parts, the thrust bearing is not
availble on its own and the moded one from westfield is over £50...And finally the gearbox output shaft has a huge rubber donnut instead of a uj.
The upside is the box will take more power(you wont need that with a pinto) and the remote linkage is easier to move where you want it.
You could pick up a type 9 for £30 and have an easier instalation..
For spacer see link

I must admit I was getting that feeling anyway - it seems that using the MT75 may cause more hassle than it's worth.
It does go in the tunnel on my chassis, but its a snug fit, and if I ever need to change the clutch, the whole lot will have to come out.
The scrappie I got the box from will probably PX it for a few quid, so getting a type 9 would seem to be the best idea.
Thanks for all of your comments.
