Not a good idea to start engine with water in cylinder , can end up bending con rod or worse. Probably worth getting head crack tested if no obvious
signs of damage, head gasket damage is normally clear to see

If it's just the head gasket get the head skimmed to make sure it's flat otherwise you'll end up doing the job again. Head gasket
failure is normally caused by overheating, check and rectify cause and don't forget to change thermostat.

also you maybe need to check your bearings...
if water sprays out also there is water in the oil..
that means that your oil level will rise..
also you oils isn't as effective as you would like to think..
also you could have picked up the problem already for 3months..with out nowing it....the hole has grown bigger etc...
sow check for your bearings because if the oil is bad, the engine will be bad
Tks

Xflos rarely blow head gaskets that badly ---
Hate to say this but did you have antifreeze in it ?

No i did not but I think the others have answered my question as I have had a hot running engine due to ingnition timing, however with the head off I
shall get it Skimmed and will replace oil and stat....Anything else whilst its stripped?

Check it's not been overbored to the point where the cylinder wall has cracked/gone porous.

If the head gasket is blown that badly it will be very very obvious where it is blown --- but you would have to have actually boiled it in really big
way to blow an xflo gasket. I have never seen a blown head gasket on any kent engine in 40 odd years.

I was hoping to just remove the head, engine still in car and check walls that way, however does anybody know the correct size of cylinder in standard
fare.

Overbore size will be marked on the pistons -- on a xflo usually in terms 0.001 of an inch. But it could be in mm.

Iwould have thought from the description you gave it's gonna be very obvious where the water is coming from

Once worked on Viva with a similar problem where it wasn't obvious turned out to be hole in the inlet manifold water jacket ----- took a very
long time to find ---- on the Viva SL90 it wasn't obvious that the inlet manifold was water heated.

omega, you are right , I just hope it is a gasket and trident is wrong (no offence Trident) as I am about 95% built and I would cry if the engine has
to come out and lots of money spent. fingers crossed Head comes off this week!!!!!!!
