51mm / 2 inch hose...
I'm after approx 200mm of hose with ID of 51mm. I could use fuel filler hose, but by the time I've paid for postage from the usual
places (demon thieves, burton, rally design, merlin...) I'm looking at the best part of 15 quid which seems silly. I don't need the hose
to be fuel resistant, it's just to hold the trumpets on my GSXR750 TBs...
So, any bright ideas for where I might get some 51mm hose locally? I've been trying to think laterally, but haven't had any bright ideas
yet, but you resourceful chaps must be able to help
Cheers,
Neil

Give your local hydraulics specialist a call (yellow pages search) and try and get some 2" suction hose (feed hose)

Location of us? or supplier? :-)
I'm in Pete-bog-horror - or Peterborough as they like to call it...
I don't have 6 fingers, but I did move here from London
I also work in Leamington Spa
WOULD ANYBODY BE INTERESTED IN A GROUP BUY? I'LL EMAIL COMPANY AND ASK THEM?
I think 1/2 metre would be more than sufficient for the mounting of TB's

right, first you mention that thge hose does not need to be petrol resistant and then you say it will be fitted to carbs? Pray, tell me what do your
carbs run on? Petrol perhaps? hmmmm.
some ideas
I am not sure what it is you are tyring to do but do you need it to be fleixble - what about some 2 inch platsic pipe - drain/waste pipe from
b&Q?
Or maybe B&Q do flexible 2 inch joiner hoses?
Or how about a gardening/exotic fish place for garden pond pipe? It is flexible pvc stuff that is transparent; and you can buy by the meter?
Maybe you can find a car/tracktor/lorry with 2 inch cooling system and use a hose for that?

try Think Auto - www.thinkauto.com - prices seem a little better to me.
If you were local to me, then I probably could have arranged for stuff from merlin as theu guy who sits next to me lives round the corner....

Well in my case I just want to attach trumpets to the TBs. The fuel is therefore not going to be in contact with the hose... not unless something is
very wrong!
The hose needs to be slightly flexible as it will be tightened with jubilee style hose clips...
I take on board suggestions re garden centres and suchlike, certainly worth a try...
Steve- thanks for the offer, I'll be passing Merlin next week, so that is an option...
Typically, I ordered some stuff from Think a couple of weeks back, isn't it always the way...
Cheers,
Neil

I guess his trumpets will run on air mostly as opposed to petrol

The trumpets do run on air!
The injector is past the trumpets, therefore there will be no petrol on the cold air side.
The pipes from the throttle bodies to the manifold contain Petrol/Air - so these need to be fuel resistant.
But for SVA Man - probably best if everything is fuel resistant :-)

Murray

If you could double O checko that would be great :-)

Quoting my own post back again!
if you call your local hydraulics place and ask for "grifflex" hose in 2" they will sell you whatever you need.
Near me I use nuneaton hose and fittings, surprisingly enough in nuneaton, they will cut off whatever you need, and cheap as chips.
I use plain single wire hydraulic hose from them for oil coolers etc, with std hyd fittings, much cheaper than all this motorsport buffoonery!

I am aware of that and wasn't being flippant.
So your engine will never ever back fire?
and what happens when the engine stops? Will there not be be petrol/air mixture inside the throttlebodies, some of it will escape? Over time the
hoses will get some contact with petrol. Whether that amount is a significant, I cannot say.

Petrol vapour will be a concern - maybe not a safety thing, but rubber tubing that's swollen up and cracked won't look pretty...

Hehe this is a discussion thread now
Ok - the metal trumpets, sit in the metal throttle bodies - they are pretty airtight.
The rubber hose connects on the outside of this - via a couple of jubilee clips (or has anybody better suggestions).
I understand that it 'might' backfire and there 'might' be some vapour when switched off... but no more than that which
'might' leak onto the 'cooling' hoses which are close by.
I 'personally' will be looking to use the same hose for both parts - cold air and engine side - for appearances sake
I think in the end we'll be going for a group buy - we already have a need for 1 metres worth.
Anybody else coming in? :-)

Yep - if the metal bits are tight fit then the type of rubber is less likely to be an issue. Any of the usual car-type hoses should be fine, as they
would be unlikely to get anything worse than the usual under-bonnet fumes.

I guess your Zetec is running stock cams? "Stand off" from long duration/high lift cams means quite a lot of fuel can hang around in the
trumpets....

Cheers guys - was unaware of that particular Zetec trait
I'm trying for the longest trumpets I can find 130mm at the moment...
I'll give the guys NS Dev mentioned a ring - see what they say

OK HERE's the PRICES
They do 48mm Internal Diameter black pipe @ £13.80 per metre
They do 51mm Internal Diameter black pipe @ £14.30 per metre
Oh this is not Grifflex, this is Radiator Hose.
They can deliver, and minimum length is 1 metre.
Therefore if we want to buy bulk we'll need even numbers as 0.5 metres to fit them should be more than adequate.
Cheers,
Murray
