Running oil pump without Dizzy?
I was going to ask this a while ago, but have only just been reminded by another thread.
If running a pinto with mega jolt is there a way you can drive the oil pump without the dizzy being there. Its a bit pointless it just sitting there
if its not doing anything.

How does the oilpump need the dizzy to work? Does it act like an idler gear?? Im wondering if an old dizzy can be modified so just the base is used -
ie the points bit at the top all removed and body shortened. Ive never studied them so need to take a closer look sometime.

There is a key on the bottom of the shaft of the dizzy which slots into the oil pump....I think it would be possible to modify an old one by cutting
it down and then welding the end shut or something though I hardly see the point unless it fouling other bits or sapping lots of power....I just
removed the rotor arm from mine and left the cap on it, looks OK (kind of old-school/retro) and doesn't get in the way of anything.....Oli.

The Uk pinto is very close to the Lima pinto which runs the pump the same way. Some here cut off the distributer shaft and cap the hole. I think
there is acually a short shunt shaft availible to do the same thing.

Thanks

I hope it is ok to do so as mine has not got a dizzy fitted anymore .I made a blanking plug with an o ring to seal it., it is seperate to the oilpump
on the crossflow, on the pinto there is a drive from dizzy bottom to the oil pump.

Crossflow distributors can be removed, they use the same gear wheel on the cam as the noil pump but do not share drives.
DO NOT PUT ON KNOB OR BOLLOCKS!
