Pinto oil light

Noticed today that the oil light doesnt come on when I turn the ignition on, but flickers on and off as I turn the engine over , then stays on until I blip the throttle ,
It's never done this before,
Its a 2l pinto with high pressure oil pump, the oil pressure is good , and there is'nt a loose connection , battery is fine too as its on a trickle charger each night.
Anybody have any ideas?? should I be worried about it?

Can you check the sender unit or swap it for a known good one? It should come on with the ignition (no oil pressure) so it might be dodgy.

Sender.

I had a new one a couple of weeks ago for the same reason, cost a couple of quid and works normal now.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

that'll be a perforated diaphram in the sender unit. Oil leaks passed and messes up the pressure difference= weird stuff happening.

"just like that !"
