help with 4age to type 9 gearbox conversion?

Hi,

I am at the stage of bolting my type 9 geatbox to 4age. they bolt together fine but I am not sure all is not well with the clutch.

1. the clutch lever on the gearbox can be moved to both end of its movement easily and does not spring return back to one of them.

2. The fingers on the clutch assembly are all flat when bolt to the flywheel. Was expecting them to stick out slightly to give the release bearing something to push against...

The kit I am using for the rwd conversion is from raw engineering, which included bell housing, release, bearing, and clutch plate and assembly.

Any help would be gratfully recieved...

Thanks
Adrian

Have tried calling raw. guess they busy. Waiting for them to call me back. thought I would try you guys for any quick suggestions...

As for the plate the right way round. If I put it on the other way the springs fowel the center bolts on the flywheel... Cant find any marking on it saying which way should face the fly wheel.

Thanks
Adrian

Hi,I'm not sure how much experiance you have as so dont take any of this the wrong way.
Have you tightened the cover plate down untill the cover plate actually touches the flywheel all the way round and not just until its tight. And is the friction plate central in the cover.
I presume you have so therefore it sounds like you have a problem with the way that the clutch arm is fitted.
Possibly the pivot is in the wrong place or the thrust bearing is not quite right somehow?

It sounds more like a mis match of part to be honest though,or the actuating arm set up is not right somehow.

Thanks... The problem was that the cut out on the bell housing was not long enough and not giving enough tavel forward for the clutch arm. Spoke with raw and they suggested that the hole may need enlarged if it is a cable clutch. half an hour with the dremmel sorted it.

Quite pleased as everything else was fine. The fingers are supposed to be flat when the clutch plate is fully tightedned to flywheel.

Everything ready to put engine in tomorrow

Thanks
Adrian

Firstly, don't worry about he spring 'fingers' been flat. They should stand proud of the cutch cover when the cover is off but as you tighten it to the flywheel, the fingers will be pushed back towards the flywheel.
Check that the CRB and the fingers are compatable. If the ends of the fingers are flat, the mating face of the CRB should be curved and vice versa.
Check the CRB and carrier are correctly cliped the the release arm and that the arm is correctly located at the bellhousing.
You should be able to push the release arm (cable end) towards the flywheel and, using a lever, be able to feel the springyness of the clutch release springs.
It's harder to explain than to do. I'm showing you with my hands now.....

Damn these slow typing fingers.....
