clutch release arm travel?

Hi,

Ive assembled clutch release bearing and arm, flywheel, clutch and then put zetec and type 9 on mountings. Now come to attach clutch cable and noticed the release arm as only 1 inch of travel and is not springy it just floats back and forwards (Essentially no clutch), what have i done wrong? do i have to drop the gearbox?

Cheers

Craig

Which clutch release bearing have you used you will need one for a Transit IIRC not the standard Zetec or Pinto ones as they do not have a long enough nose.

Sounds like the release bearing is too short. A cheap fix to move it up is to pull the fulcrum pin out, drill & tap the hole, fit a bolt with a nut & washers to move the fulcrum nearer the clutch, which moves the opposite end toward the rear of the box. A little experimentation with the adjustment & there you go. The expensive way is to buy an extended bearing carrier from Westfield.

just wondering

I haven't got round to fitting my engine yet but will be useing 2l zetec and type 9.

I have fitted the 1.8 flywheel but used the cvh clutch and pressure plate ( it came with the donor cvh1.8 glx sierra)

All seems well and I'm using the original starter etc.

Anyone else done this does It work?
