What to look for when buying a Zetec
Hi all,
I think I've hopefully found a Zetec engine for my car. I'm going over to check it out tomorrow, Its still in a V reg mondeo, and
apparently done 26000 miles. For £180. This sounds too good to be true to me, its from an auto parts company, they said I should still be able to see
it running. Are there any major points I need to check when Im looking at it other than the obvious ones?
Regards
Matt

Look for blue smoke in the exhaust at startup from cold, listen for knocking, tapping, or rattling when warm look for water in the oil and oil in the
water, (obviously these are bad things!) it should tick over nicely etc etc.

Signs of wear on there seats, steering wheel and gear knob etc.
26,000miles for a V reg sounds a little too low!

Guy living next door to me has a 1988 BMW, it's done just 20k miles, so you never know. May be a good one, at 26k its just about run in, mind
you if its 126k then its just about run out. atb Ray

Check out the rubber on the brake/clutch pedals. With mileage that low, there should be virtually no visible wear. If that's the case, and
they look pretty much like new, the mileage is probably true...

Check the things as said above. But beware a v reg youl need a cat etc on your kit car for emissions.
