Stiff Gears
Hi all,
Just had a test drive in a Tiger Cat E1 2.0 Pinto running twin 45's and overall it was great, feet got toastie.....
One question though....
The gearbox was very stiff, especially going from 4th to 5th. It was also difficult to find 1st on a number of occasions. The guy who currently owns
it said it will take some getting used to and it was partly due to the Gear Remote.
How stiff should they be?
Am i worrying about nothing?
What could be the problem?

Solution?..... rip it out and stick a bike engine in it....sorted.

I didn't post it for your amusement and it is a viable solution to the problem, (although maybe it could have been worded better). It is also a
lot more helpful than your response, which by the way, doesn't even address the question.

Got a home made remote on my type nine with quick shift. Don't have any problems with stiff gears at all , in fact I may shorten the lever a bit
more . Not sure what type of remote Tiger use but suspect it may be the type that fits above the gearbox ?rather than in line with the gearbox

Some remotes (including mine) have the gearstick a bit too short, making moving it around a bit hard - mine's the same principle as Rusty
Nut's, but I'm thinking of going longer! 
You have to remember that the original gearstick was a yard long and was like stirring soup - easy to move, but took up some operating space.
I'm thinking of making my stick a bit longer (ooer!) which should make it a lot easier to shift gears.
Also, remember that the more slop you have in the mechanism the worse it will be - mine's very direct, but a lot aren't.

If it's the standard Tiger remote then some find they can be quite difficult to set up

My car is exactly the same, it can be quite difficult to get 5th from 4th, but I don't think it's a problem that you need to worry about
at all. The bigger problem I have anyway is finding reverse instead of 1st.

As mentioned it depends which type of remote its using. My CAT uses the newer westfield type one. The old ones are generally crap and not worth
messing with since you can buy better remotes direct from Tiger now! If it is the newer one there are still a few things to do to make it work
properly. Firstly if bought from tiger you need to get a different bit made up on a lathe. The westfield one allows you to clip in a plastic bit.
However, the tiger one is to wide for the bit to clip on but to small to leave without doing anything or its just sloppy! Also you need to check to
see if anyones messed with the fulcrum point. If they have theys hould have put some washers under the mounts to rasie the whole lever up if they
haven't it will be harder to move....failing all that slather it in copper or CV grease and screw it down well....SVA man said mine was the
smoothest Tiger one he'd used in ages - not being cockey or anything! If you need any help with it u2u me....Oli.

Thanks to most for some helpful advice. I spoke to Tiger and they said it would probably need a bit of adjustment and it would be fine. (it is a
Tiger remote)
Went back to the seller and he has adjusted it and greased it up, says it is much better now, going back on Saturday to have another feel......oooooo
