Bike carbs fuel needs ?

Hi all, I'm trying to sort out the fuel requirements for a set of Mikuni(?) 34mm choke carbs to run a x/flow, I'm thinking of using the bank of four carbs and am unsure if I need to change the fuel pump from the engine driven one to an electric one ? Any one done this before on an x/flow ??
Thanks
Jason

The advantage of using a bike fuel pump is that they require no pressure regulator. They pump until they sense back pressure in the fuel line (needle valves in float chamber closed), then slow down / shut off. Most bike carbs are very pressure sensitive (they were often just gravity fed from the tank above with no fuel pump.). The mechanical pump should be able to supply the amount of fuel you require, but you'll get more control with the electric one.

The in tank ones tend to be fuel injection pumps - far too higer pressure for carbs.

You need something from a 97-99 carbed bike like this

just check it has come from a carb rather than injection model.

Whatever you do, don't try to use anything other than a bike pump - as already mentioned they are sensitive. I and others have had fun and games trying to make Facet pumps work. Forget it, you'll get uneven idle and a crappy response + fuel pi**ing out of various orifices. I flogged my Red Top, bought a bike pump and made twenty quid into the bargain.

Bike carbs fuel needs

Would a bike fuel pump still work if you are only using two out of the four carbs?(fitting some to my classic mini at the moment in case you wonder why only two!)

Yep it will work just the same working only the 2 carbs. Just wont have to work as hard as if there were 4! Oli.

You can buy pressure regulators specialy for carb applications, I have one on my striker. You can use a facet pump (or even the mechanical one) but turn the pressure down to prevent flooding. They are not suitable for use with an injcetion type pump though.

£6 for the R6 pump that was a bargain!

It should work fine, my R1 pump keeps my blackbird carbs running without any problems.

ps my pump is horizontally mounted next to the tank at the rear of the car. Also have pre and post pump filters fitted.
