Fireblade engine not starting

Can anyone help get my 96 rrt fireblade to start. It goes to start then can backfire and a suction noise can be heard straight afterwards in exhaust. The carbs have been cleaned. There is spark but the bloody thing just turns over with intermittent backfires and sometimes almost starts but not quite. Any ideas thanks.

In a reversal of fortunes,Have you considered fitting a (proper) car engine
Sorry mate but just couldn't resist a dig at Hellfire. Hope you get it sorted. Cheers Ray

Have you checked the carbs are getting fuel, try removing the fuel pipe from the carbs and check that fuel is pumped through when the ignition is turned on.
Should be delivering about 900ml per minute IIRR.

Rich.

Has it ever ran or is this first start up?
Suction noise from exhaust usually indicates a blockage somewhere on the air intake side and is causing a vacuum effect.
Double check carb inlet tracks not blocked.

In response to the question, are your spark plugs new? If not, try sticking a set of new plugs in.

Sounds like coil pack mis-wiring to me as well. I know at some point during the carbed blade's life the wiring of the coil packs swapped over, so make sure you're not looking at an early wiring diagram with a later loom or vice versa otherwise they will probably be wired up incorrectly.

I know this from experience because when we dropped my mate's 93 engine / coils into my car that I was building at the time just to test it ran OK, we had a huge backfire when trying to start it using my 99 loom, particularly painful as we had no silencer attached and had the original bike manifold up over the engine about a foot from my ear!

Also what fuel pump are you using?

Could be a few things, stale fuel, dirty/wet plugs , crossed coil/plug wires.
Bit more info needed, as already asked, has it ever run? Do you have an exaust on at all? have you tried easystart?

Congratulations, it's a great feeling when it's running properly. Just try and refrain from firing it up every time you go into the garage to remind you how good it sounds
