powerboost valve

a friend has just been be extolling the virtues of the FSE powerboost valve he has recently installed on his car.

having googled a bit it appears it increases the fuel pressure by a factor of 1.7 under acceleration. this sounds like nutsack to me. wouldn't it over richen the mixture??

"Rising rate fuel pressure regulator" is a more correct description but to keep it simple for the Max Power brigade thay are sold as "power boost valves".

As theres an adjuster on it yes you can over richen the fueling to the extent of flooding an engine! They are more commonly used on forced induction engines when the boost is upped to increase the fueling to match. Cheaper than a chip, interceptor or fully programmable fuel computer.

Don't suppoe he had a before and after power graph? or just seat of the pants measurement

hes one of the max power brigade im afraid, had the car a day (Mg zr) and had a powerboost valve and a stainless exhaust fitted, he thinks its faster though

I bought one of these as a replacement oem fuel regulator was nearly twice the price from Ford. Apart from the adjustable feature I cant see how it can improve performance.
If things are running a bit lean I suppose you can increase fuel pressure to compensate but if the car is mapped properly with a standard reg it will still produce the same power won't it?

Possibly a long way off here but I belive the theory is.

Stock ECU Stock & Fuel presure regulator
the original fuel presure regulator maintains a known presure level behind the injectors the injectors are opened by the ecu for a known amount of time therfore suply a known ammount of fuel.

Most production cars have economy in mind so fueling is on the minimum side.

The rising rate presure valve if setup should maintain the the presure in the fuel line but when you plant the throttle the vacume in the plenum opperates the valve in the top of the regulator giving you more fuel presure so when the injector are fired the spray more fuel in.

Or if like me you are running Std Range rover ECU but with high lift cam and fiddled with ports and plenum ect it is a way to keep everything running till I can get my after market ECU plummed in.
