is this what im looking for?
I have decided to go with a 1.4 k series for my next build ( more likely to be a long drawn out affair!)
I did not really have time to do much research because i spotted it on the bay last night and it was ending today!
I have just won this for the pricely sum of £5.50 and its in my home town.
ebay link
Is this going to get me off on the right track or have i just bought someone elses junk/ not ths right thing.
If its no good then at least i can go and weigh it in for more than i paid for it lol

Accourding to
http://www.austin-rover.co.uk/index.htm?enginekseriesf.htm
it'll have 75 or 95PS depending on whether its 8v or 16v...
Ain't exactly going to trouble a Lambo but if you build it light it'll still be fun and the insurance will sure be cheap

It must be relatively easy to swap from 95 to 103 BHP. It is likely to be the cams or ECU tune.
I used to work for the company who made the ECU programming equipment for Rover. They changed the tunes in their ECUs quite regularly. There was
always a new EURO X emissions standard to meet, or someone worked out how to make a bit more power from it. Perhaps you could get an ECU from a 214 /
414 or an MG ZR 105 which had 105 PS rather than 'only' 103. Or maybe an after market tune.

didn't rover do a trick with some cars to limit the power by reducing the stroke of the throttle cable?
May have been on the 200 series cars in later years.

Good engines, especially for that price and as it has a new head gasket already. As long as they fitted steel dowels and the head didn't need
skimming too, you'll be fine.
I had one in a Metro a few years ago. Good engine. Sh1t car, but good engine......

I used to work with the bloke who did the original tuning software for Rover. Keith (can't remember his surname). Small world.

Yes!! I've got one of their throttle bodies at home. It's got a little arm on the side of the throttle arm that sticks out and clashes
with the throttle body itself and prevents you opening the throttle by more than 45 degrees!!! I'll be chopping that bit off when doing the EFi
conversion.....

That is almost definitely the 95ps version from an early GTi as it has single point injection.
Have a close look at the head casting, the early 1.4 heads had smaller, poorer flowing inlet ports. Later head should fit ok if you want more
power.

Irrespective, for £5.50 I really don't think you can complain!
