I went back to B&Q today and bought a roll of the ally foil/bubblewrap stuff. I must say that after working with it for an hour I am very impressed with its durability. I have now insulated the main rad pipes, despite having practically no room to fit it, and still have loads left. I think it will be ideal as underlay when it is time for carpets, giving heat & sound insulation. Probably not suitable for the engine bay though - it melts when subjected to any real heat but up to 100degC shouldn't be a problem.

Raz

Its called Thermawrap or Spirawrap depending on the width you buy. My roll of Thermawrap is about 500mm wide and 7.5 metres long. It has foil on both sides and is suprisingly tough.
