Water Pump Zetec

Anyone know if you can cut the impeller off a blacktop water pump, so that the pulley will still work.

I'm fitting an electric water pump an need to remove the mechanical pump but still need the pulley in place

I think the impeller will come off as there is a one that can be put in so goes round the same as the crank pulley.

May just be pressed on.
