How to drive a diesel tacho

Hi,I'm putting a diesel engine into my Westfield and want the VDO tacho to work.I don't have an ECU and have been advised it could be done using an LM1815 conditioner board. But how ? Also considered using a EDIS module but requires coils to be operational. Any advice / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, mike.

what engine are you using? i presume its got a mechanical injection pump?

i dont have a tacho yet, but intend to use a magnet on pulley and pushbike style pick up. going into a vapour digidash. might have to introduce some kind of op-amp if the signal is too weak.

not sure how else to do it. some SVA centres have a vibration sensor to accurately check rpm for noise test, but that sounds expensive....

will

Most diesels run the tacho from the alternator, just take a tap out before the regulator.
