TPS in ZZR1100 carbs
how have others done this? i remember something about drilling and tapping the spindle, but has anyone got any pictures?
or...
have some carbs with the same spacing with TPS already attached for much cheapness  I'm talking like £30 which i know is a long shot, but its
worth a go 
also...
i know its not the best idea, but mounting the TPS on the accelerator pedal itself... i know the pedal movement isn't exactly the same as the
carb spindle movement, but given that the accelerator pedal itself shouldn't move too much more, would this be accurate enough to get started
with? ie, will the engine run happily enough and not be damaged in any way?

I would doubt that your pedal will travel far enough to operate the TPS from. The butterfly spindle will rotate through nearly 90 degrees from idle to
full throttle.

I never actually ended up with a fully fledged working method. i drilled the end of the throttle shaft (small cap to remove first) and tapped it. Then
fitted a bolt (head removed), carefully loctited in.
Manifold was made with a bracket. Fow a while i managed to fit a pot to the bracket and fasten to the bolt bit with a piece of stiff tube and some
clips. The problem with this is that the carbs are mounted to the manifold with hose, ie flexy mounting, but the TPS pot is rigid to the manifold. 2
issues caused;
1. The pot spindle broke (plastic on mine) and i never got round to finding a metal shafted pot.
2. Everytime you remove carbs when setting up you have to recalibrate the pot. Not too hard a job but during the RR set up i didnt have time.
In the end the car was running so well in 2D mode that ive never since fiddled any more to get a better solution. Im pretty sure a pot with metal
shaft will work, and now carbs are set up there is no need to keep removing. Better solution is defo to have the TPS on the carbs itself, however on
early model ZZR's this isnt quite as easy to do.
i think if you mount the pot to the throttle pedal you dont need the same arc of movement that the carb throttle will see. However it is possible that
the reduced movement could mean the pot is working in a tighter range so the resolution may not be ideal. Overall though i think this may be a more
robust solution.

Just looked at Lee's pics again. Much better idea taking the spindle tapping idea on a stage.
The only tricky bit on tapping the spindle is making sure you drill it concentric. Just take your time.

hmmm had a look at the pictures, all looks a bit fiddly for me. i know i'd balls it up. not entirely convinced i want to spent too much time on
these carbs i have now. had a proper look at them today, full of missing/damaged screws, and one or two broken ones.
do zx9r carbs have the TPS already built in? are they spaced the same as zzr1100 carbs?
might just same my self a lot of time and get some if they are

I believe the later ZX9R carbs have built in TPS and also possibly the later ZZR1100's
Dont know about the spacing. Jacko might be able to help with that.

got some zx9r carbs with TPS on order now
planning to get a few bits for the zzr1100 carbs, tidy them up, sort the missing screws, and put them back on ebay. try and get some of my money back.
think they only cost me £35 or something
