Fitting solid lifters in an Alfa V6
Evening all.
Whilst Gaz is busy sorting out the model for the Epona, I'm busy sorting out the engine I intend putting in my one. Only thing is, being a
bit bored one day I decided I would tune the engine a wee bit. And for me this means making it turn a few more rpm than Alfa intended, as well as a
few more HP. To this end I'm fitting uprated cams, H beam rods and getting the whole engine balanced, as Alfa only did an external balance, ie
flywheel and front pulley. I also need to remove the hydraulic lifters and get some solid ones in.
Now, is this something that is easy to do myself, and if so any hints/tips? I know that the shims will need machining to length to fit correctly, but
since I'm changing the cams, do I need to have the new ones, or can it be done with the stock ones I still have kicking about? Or should I just
give the heads to a local engine shop and get them to do the lot? Sorry for all the questions, but these new fangled DOHC engines are a bit of a
learning curve for me! Ah, I remember the days of tuning the A series.....

Mine's the 24V version. Oh, the joy I'm going to have setting all 4 cams and the tension right when I change the belt.

When I changed the belt on my 12v one I cheated. I cut the old belt in half along its length and then moved the outer half. Slid the new belt along
side the old half and then cut off the old half.
But I wasn't fitting new cams or rebuilding the engine!

I wasn't going to do anything to do it at all! I even ripped the entire loom out of the donor car to make it run the stock ECU and immobiliser.
All of which I now don't need.
Whilst it's possible to do the belt change like that with the 24V, it's recommended that you reset/re-time all the cams too. But
I've got to do that anyway.....
Anywho, solid lifters?

The solid lifter kits are available, it's the fitting of them that I am unsure about.
