"It nearly started"

Not my words, the words of Shakin' Stevens!*

*my mum

Yesterday I put in another engine that came straight from a car that it was running in (so it's all timed up nicely) My injectors are all working, I'm getting very strong sparks but it's not starting. It's trying to, seems like a few cylinders are going yes, yes, yes! then the others slow it down. I'm running EDIS6 and I installed the triggerwheel as per the instructions.

Firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 and I have my leads arranged like:

What are the basic things I can check? Must be overlooking something... it was spluttering, really wanting to start. So close!

Thanks for all the help everyone ^__^ <3

Could be totally wrong BUT I thought the coil fired ABC order

if it does then your leads on B and C are the wrong way wround.

need to check with info on megasuirt or jolt site.

Check that the coil triggerring is in the right sync.
i.e you will have 4 cable's (not plug leads) at the coil. 1 live and 3 trigger wires. Two of them could be mixed up causing the yes yes, No No, no no scenario.

swap No No with no no and you'll get yes yes yes yes.

confused?????? I can't explain it better at the moment.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I second both replies above, the trigger wires correspond to the 3 banks on the coil, you might want to doublecheck them against the MS pinout. As Paul says, it sounds like it triggers ABC while you wired it ACB.

Yeah that's definately something to try in the morning! I recently mentioned the coil wires in another thread I found. I'll paste from there:

According to the tabs (and this is the same on another diagram I've seen) I have it the wrong way round. So I have the switched live going to pin 1 and pins 2,3 & 4 going to the coils. I'm still getting sparks, i think on all plugs... so will the coil order be messed up because of this connector's wiring?

What I found weird about the connector is that one of the connectors (terminal 1) has thicker wire than the other 3. So maybe I should wire it back to how I had it to start with (no problem as they're all bullet connectors)

I'll try in the morning! (could do now but dad is off to Belgium at 3am, don't think he'd be happy )

It started! **** me is it loud! ^__^ (no exhaust on) It's getting dark now so I'll film it tomorrow during the daylight. I've not got my cooling system filled up yet either so I only had it running for a few seconds, I'll fill it up tonight and post a vid tomorrow!

Will do ^__^ I've just finished fitting all the hoses, expansion bottle etc and filled it up with coolant. When I give it some throttle it cuts out, is this because I haven't mapped it yet? I've just done the bare minimum to get it running so I don't know what step is next...
