Cable Clutch Conversion?

Want to get rid of my cable on the clutch, its a bugger to adjust and fit and almost doubles on itself from the peddle to the arm in the bell housing. After all they are only about 50mm away from each other.

Going to hydralic is too much hassle, expensive and major work, not least the clutch peddle.

So, how about a push rod system with rose joints? One rod from the peddle forwards to a pivot on the offside engine mount and another rod back into the bell housing to connect to the release arm??

Not dissimilar to bec gearchange setups?

Engine is out atm while I install an ali bellhousing that has no cable provision and the clutch cable was a right bar steward to get off!!

What do you reckon??

It doesn't appear to be that difficult to alter ford pedal boxes to hydraulic. Here's a picture I stole form the Cobra Club site

if your running a bike engine which is mounted solid then a rod system would be best. if its a car engine and box on rubber mounts i dont think it would work very well...

Thats it, exactly what I had in mind. Was thinking of putting the pivot on the engine mount so its solid with the engine. The engine generally only goes sideways a little on the track so not much flex.

Forgot to say, its a floor mounted, welded in bias box and to get the clutch pedal out I need to pull the pivot for the brakes and that means taking the BODY OFF!!

Yep! That was a few years ago and two cars ago but it worked really well. Nice and smooth without the hassle of a sharply bent cable. The engine was solid mounted although I reckon it would be OK with a rubber mounted motor especially.

I used this setup with the original crossflow and with the Zetec mounted 9" further back.

You might want to try the method used by American cars, before they all went to automatic. A bell crank was fitted to the frame on one side and the engine in the other. Two rose joints on each end of the bell crank would allow for some movement of the engine. A rod runs from the pedel to the bell crank, and another from the bell crank back to the throwout lever.
