Throttle bodies on a c20XE

I've started asking questions in the wanted section so I though I'd move them in hear where they belong.

I have just taken delivery of my engine () and I'm fairly certain its not going to fit into my engine bay with the standard induction.

I want to keep the injection and I really dont want to change to bike carbs/webers.

I'm looking into converting GSXR carbs into throttle bodies instead as the aftermarket parts from SBD/jenvey are expensive as they may be replaced when I eventually upgrade to forced induction. I wont be able to use a bogg bros/other manifold I believe as I still need the injection.

Does anyone know if the standard inlet manifold could be modified as the zetecs has been in this post (http://www.sportingfords.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&p=19574)

Alternatively is there a way to fit modified bike TBs to an XE along with the standard injection?

Why not go the TB and Megasquirt route, then later, you can convert to forced induction? Depending upon how good you are at welding/wiring, you could be up and running for a couple of hundred quid.

Hi mate, yes that is exactly what I intend on doing.

What I'm trying to figure out is how I mount my TB's while maintaining the injectors in place.

Looking at the Bogg Bros manifold its just carbs > manifold > head. I need a system which goes TBS > manifold with someway to install injectors/fuel rail/all that bumf > head.

Am I making sense?

as discussion on initial post (sorry if I confused it), Believe if you went for the Bogg Bros manifold they do not generally respace their throttle bodies which would enable reuse of the existing motorbike fuel rail and injectors, respacing makes amateur production of a manifold easier as less bends (but take into account the added problems in respacing) ZX9 motorbike carbs another option which can be respaced just got to worry about ignition then.

just found this forum on net which seems to emply modification of existing manifold is possible, may be worth Googling XE forums as well

Ah thank you! that clears that up, I didn't understand you properly (blame my inexperience with EFI and TBs!).

I have someone who will fab me a manifold without needing to respace the TBs for £100.

There are several options here.

The OEM inlet gear WILL fit under a Dax 'Zetec' bonnet with no modifications at all except using a 'power cap' instead of the air filter box - this is cheap, easy and will get you on the road with no messing about and easy pass at SVA / IVA with respect to emissions etc. Total cost for power cap and air filter about £100.

Next option is bike carbs - easy peasy, did it in a weekend. You'll need the carbs and a dizzy of some kind - cost from £100 (home made manifold and lucky dizzy find at the scrappy) to £500 (Bogg manifold and H&H ignition solutions dizzy). These will still need the Dax Zetec bonnet to clear - the standard one doesn't have the space.

Last option is bike TB's - which I know nothing about at all.

If you need any info I've done both of the first 2... let me know.

Chris

Ah yes I see. You've respaced the throttle bodies then just connected them with some hose to the original manifold?

its that easy just use a fuel rail from an 8v astra and blank of the gsxr injector holes with the bungs from an astra front panel the ones that block the headlight adjusters its so easy
