Tintoip clutch help please (ford puma)

Wouldnt mind some help on this please.

Missus owns a 1.4 ford Puma. I took it out today and give it some comming out of a junction and then found it hard to get into 3rd or 4th. Seems to be much worse when changing down and braking at the same time.

Then later on she went out in it and said it was making 'noises'. Im sure its the clutch, sitting on the drive with it ticking over and in neutral i hear nothing, put clutch pedal down and i hear a faint rubbing sound, put it into ANY gear and take up biting point and noise becomes more noticable.

Clutch doesnt slip but i think it must be that. Have i bost the friction plate? Also i cant do without the car as she is a mobile hearstylist so i need to know if it will fail soon (if at all) and can i drop the gearbox with the engine still in the car and change the clutch myself?

Typical, get the kitcar on the road today and then loose this one lol.

Cheers

Sounds like the plate is braking up. Ive had it a few times. Had a 406 do it and it lasted about a week.

The zetec-se IB5 boxes have a very noisey thrust bearing, but you should only be able to hear that in neutral with the clutch engaged.

I did my clutch on my fiesta on the drive. It takes a while but you can do it. The hardest thing I found was getting the near side drive shaft out as it has some c ring thing on the end of it. You have to take the gear box mount and the near side engine mount off and lower it all down.

The clutch is around £80 and the thrust bearing is about £40

It has a hydrolic clutch so you have to bleed all of that afterwards. The engine block is ally so don't do what I did and do some of the bolts up too tight adnd strip the threads!

hmmm, i think i will order a new clutch and hope she gets thru this week ok. Good news the engine doesnt have to come out, still a pain but nothing a large hammer wont sort out.

Cheers.

clutch can be done without taking the engine out no problem.the ib5 box is knwon for being noisy in neutral,it a character of that box.the clutch release bearings are also known for leaking (bottom of the bell housing will be wet).
