ECU remapping

Has anyone used one of the ECU flashing devices advertised on the Bay of E ?? if so any success they advertise the ability to copy and upload new maps to your ECU. I have a Golf 1.8 turbo 2001 model and would like a BHP more squeezing out of it cos I think 150bhp is pants for a turbo especially when normally aspirated fords are pushing out 135bhp as well as normally aspirated 1.8 golf. a turbo and im only getting 15bhp benefit. The Fasher advertised is the KWP 2000

tbh, the kwp2000 kit on ebay is crap. You are risking killing your ecu. There isn't enough knowlegde around on these systems in the public domain to risk using them. THey have similar technology to the commercially available ones BUT none of the safetly features. You also have no back when it goes wrong. Unless you are very lucky and have the software to modify (which is hideously expensive and not easy to use) the files I wouldn't risk it considering if you look around you can get a remap for £250ish. You should end up with around the 200bhp mark on the non-drive by wire 1.8t engine. The DBW engines you get slightly more as they have the KO3s turbo rather than the KO3.
