Escort RS2000 Engine (same as sierra dohc?)
Pretty much as the title. I don't really like the idea of a Sierra DOHC. Allegedly it weighs more that most kitcars, it big, it gives u warts
and its not much better than a Pinto. But what about the MK5 Escort RS2000 DOHC? Is it the same engine? I've seen one locally for next to
nothing and wondered how it mates up to the Type 9 or MT75? Its supposed to put out 150bhp, which puts it up there with the Zetec. or am I missing
something? I don't want to go down this road if I'm going to waste 3 months trying to get it to fit a gearbox.
Thanks

16v version of the same engine.
Same tall/heavy engine. No reall tuninig bits other than a superchip.
On the plus side, get the ecu and its a cheap easy 150Bhp
edit as for gearbox it will mount to both.

the Sierra DOHC is an 8 valve engine
The RS2000 has a 16 valve head
Im pretty certain its the same block so there should be no problems mating it to a type 9/mt75

or you could fit a more modern Zetec and have the exhaust coming out on the right side (left) so its not in your ears + have tuning potential once you
get bored of it.
Plus lots of people fit them so peeps can help you when you get stuck / need parts.

Believe me, I'd love too. But RS2000 engine is almost free and I'm willing to bet a Zetec lump is going to cost some money...... unless
your offering
Oh and to hijack my own thread (is that possible) what's the best gearbox for a Zetec then? I'm early in the build and I intend to build
a book chassis. It my first time you see Using all the parts from a donor made such good sense, until someone mentioned I can use any engine and
still get an age related plate.

The exhaust is on the left on the DOHC. Is it different on the 16v then?

I'm thinking along the same lines, my donor is a DOHC & I know where I can get an RS2000 motor with the ECU, loom etc for little money. If
it follows convention like most FWD Fords the exhaust will be on the front as it sits in the Escort & that will put it on the left for RWD as
we'd like it to be.
As to whether it's a bad choice it depends on what you want from the car, if you want cheap & straight forward, & you're just
going to be using the car for pleasure & mabye an odd track day then if it's available cheap I dont think it's bad at all! This fits
with what I want, 150bhp in something this light is going to be fairly lively on the road.
And after all, upgrading at a later date to a Zetec would be easier than say from a Zetec to a Duratec.

Didn't realise the exhaust was on the 'correct' side. Heck if its nearly free - go for it.

I used Pinto cos i thought they were cheap. Not so by the time you add all of the other bits you need to get them running well. I could have fitted
zetec for virtually same money with arguably better tuning potential later.
Learn from my mistake and fit the engine you want. You can budget on other bits and upgrade in the coming years.
