Are the manifolds etc the same on both??

Might not be exactly the same, but they are interchangable.
Is this linked to your carb problem?

What needs to be changed to cobvert from silver top to black top?? Arnt the waterpumps different so you cant just fit a 1.8 one to turn the other
way?

On the blacktop an idler pulley is needed to run the water pump the right way. It's easy to do though.
I think the engine mountings will fit, but not 100% sure.

The alternator mount is different, the sumps are interchangable but the windage tray from the silvertop cannot be fitted to a black top without
changing the main bearing studs.I modified the black top 2 part sump on mine , it needed a lot of ally cutting off and then the steel lower part was
easy to shorten.
